Join a Committee

At AEF, we welcome our members and supporters to assist on one of our committees. Information regarding each committee can be found below. If you are interested in learning more about how you can help on one of our committees, please email us at info@ascendfundny.org.

Development Committee

The Development Committee is responsible for establishing and executing the organization’s fundraising strategy.  It also has responsibility to source corporate partnerships, plan fundraising events and attain grants.

Duties & Responsibilities

-Set strategy to meet annual fundraising goals
-Plan and execute Annual Gala
-Seek financial sponsors and partnerships
-Plan the semi-monthly happy hours to update supporters on the fund, raise awareness for events, and fundraise
-Recruit Advisory Council Members

 

External Affairs Committee

The External Affairs Committee is responsible for managing and developing all external communications and relationships with the community.

Duties & Responsibilities

-Conduct outreach, manage, and develop relationships with partner organizations
-Create and manage publication of AEF’s mid-year review and annual report
-Manage AEF website News, Blog pages, social media platforms, and other resources
-Aid with Scholarship/ Mentorship Committees, and with Fundraising Committee on joint events
-Create other marketing materials (flyers for events, fundraising, scholarship outreach, etc) and maintain our photo database
-Manage all communication with the media
-Update periodic newsletters and announcements (scholar spotlight, events)

 

Mentorship Committee

The Mentorship Committee is responsible for all aspects of the mentorship program, including the recruitment and selection of mentors, organization of mentorship events, and tracking of mentorship progress.

Duties & Responsibilities

-Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and selecting mentors
-Execute events and workshops for mentors and mentees
-Serve as a resource for both the mentors and mentees
-Serve as a secondary / back up mentor, as needed, for mentees
-Follow up with mentors to track progress of relationship (Quarterly)

 

Scholarship Committee

The Scholarship Committee is responsible for all aspects of the scholarship  application process including the creation of the application form, outreach to students, and selecting the AEF Scholars.

Duties & Responsibilities

-Plan/implement the scholarship logistics/deadlines
-Contact/inform NYC high schools of scholarship key dates
-Recruit and manage selection committee
-Manage communication with students and advisors
-Promote the scholarship at college fairs
-Ensure that scholars continuously meet eligibility requirements

 

Technology Committee

The Technology Committee is responsible for setting and meeting the organization’s technology strategy.

Duties & Responsibilities

-Create and manage the online application in conjunction with the Scholarship Committee
-Create and manage online reader system
-Manage ongoing inquiries from students, recommenders and readers during the scholarship application process
-Update and revise online application as needed
-Manage online presence in conjunction with External Affairs Committee
-Maintain AEF website
